Four-Stage National Selection Process

STAGE 1DMO

District Mathematical Olympiad

The nationwide grassroots entrance round organized across all 77 districts of Nepal for students in grades 8 to 12.

Eligibility: Regularly enrolled school and college students in Grades 8 through 12 across all 77 districts of Nepal.

Format: 50 Multiple Choice Objective Questions (MCQs), 100 Minutes duration. Negative marking: -0.25 per incorrect response. Paper conducted simultaneously at designated district centers nationwide.

Fee: NPR 500 per participant (includes examination paper, certificate, and problem booklet)

STAGE 2PMO

Provincial Mathematical Olympiad

The second stage of competition conducted across the 7 provinces of Nepal, gathering the highest-scoring DMO qualifiers.

Eligibility: Contestants who qualified from Stage 1 (DMO) across the 7 Provinces of Nepal.

Format: Stage 2: Comprehensive subjective examination consisting of 8 analytical proof-based problems across Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory, and Combinatorics. Duration: 3 Hours (180 Minutes).

Fee: Free of cost for all DMO-qualified participants.

STAGE 3NMO

National Mathematical Olympiad

The premier national championship uniting top provincial math champions at Kathmandu to compete for the national title.

Eligibility: Top provincial qualifiers from PMO across all 7 provinces, plus reigning national medalists.

Format: Stage 3: Two-day Olympiad championship modeled strictly on the IMO format. Day 1: 3 Problems, 4.5 Hours. Day 2: 3 Problems, 4.5 Hours. Total 6 rigorous proof-based problems (42 points max).

Fee: Free of cost.

STAGE 4TST

Team Selection Test & Training Camp

Rigorous selection rounds and intensive residential training camps to select the final 6-member delegation representing Nepal.

Eligibility: Top 20 medalists and qualifiers from the National Mathematical Olympiad (NMO).

Format: Intensive 4-week residential training camp with IMO alumni and university faculty, followed by 3 Team Selection Test (TST) simulation exams.
